you find signboards written ‘FREE Open WIFI’ or ‘Free Hotspot’ or notice about that only when you got a notification pops up on your smartphone if WiFi is turned on, and you start trying to connect with them. As soon as connected, you start using Whatsup, Facebook, checking emails, and sometimes also do online shopping and banking over that WiFi. Sometimes you do that just because you are running out of internet data and you are in a so much rush to go online that you even overlook to crosscheck it with the owner or staff, but is it safe? No, in concerned to privacy and security, you are compromising your all details to them, because it might have possible that some hacker is faking the router name. So before connecting to any network like this, you should take following precautions:

How to Turn Off Windows 10 Automatic Downloading Installing Updates.

How to disable fix automatic updates in Windows 10 –

Many of you have observed that or met with this condition where you are in a hurry and you tried to shutdown laptop but a message displays that “windows installing updates please wait till the process complete”. And your laptop won’t shutdown until it completes the process or you forcefully shutdown by long pressing the power key. But whenever you start your laptop it that message will appear again until it completes. This can make you wait for 10-15 mins, and not necessarily you would have that much time every time. Though an update-to-date system is always a much safer to work and less vulnerable to attack many users wants to get rid of this feature. Microsoft time to time updates their security patches, bug fix and patches for overall performance and to ensure your computer/laptop keep protected from attacker and run properly, it automatically install these updates. So that is why we do not recommend you to turn off the Automatic Updates because somehow it is going to help you. But actually this approach is not convenient for every user; this is not what everyone wants.

Windows 10 won’t let you to take the full control over installing updates, like its prior versions where we had an option “Never check for updates” in Windows 8 and 7, and “Turn off Automatic Updates” in Windows XP, etc. They are mandatory and downloaded and installed automatically by default; but you can control to notify and prevent from automatic download.

Today I am going to show you the 3 ways to prevent Automatic Updates downloading and installing. So it won’t bother you anymore. The methods are following below:

Setting as Metered Network: This is an option where you tell Windows that you are using a Metered Network whether you are using or not, to restrict the Windows from automatic download. Steps to do this-

Select ‘Start’ then go to ‘Settings’, on that page Click on ‘Network & Internet’ icon; here you find out the WiFi tab is already open showing all the available network. Select the network you are using and click on “Advanced options” link. Here you can see the on/off button below the “Set as metered connection”. Click to make it on.

Changing Local Group policy: You can disable the service by editing in the group policies. Steps to do this-

Press Win + R key on the keyboard to open the Run command. Type gpedit.msc and press Enter Key to open the ‘Local Group Policy Editor’, a window will appear. Find the Computer Configuration Tab on the Left Hand Side Panel, go to the Administrative Templates, double click to expand it, go to the Windows Components, double click to expand it, Browse Windows Updates and click to the ‘Configure Automatic Updates’ on the Right Hand Side Panel. A new windows will appear check mark on ‘Enabled’ and    select ‘Notify for download and notify for install’ from the drop down list click on Apply and OK. And exit from the Editor.

Disabling Services from Control Panel: You can also disable the service through Control Panel. Steps to do this-

Press Win + R key on the keyboard to open the Run command. Type “control” and press Enter key. You will reach to the Control Panel window, Set view by to “Large icons” now you can see the ‘Administrative Tools’ click on it. Another new window will appear Browse the ‘Services’ Shortcut, double click on it, and Browse for Windows Update option, double click on it, a tab will open, from where you can Start, Stop and Disable the service.

Blue Screen of Death Error (BSOD) – What it is and How to fix it

How can Troubleshoot the Blue Screen Error –

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error is officially known as a “stop error” and referred to as “bug check” in the Windows software development kit and driver development kit documentation.

It is an error which displays on your computer screen when a fatal system error occurs, also known as a system crash. This generally happens when the operating system reaches a condition where it can no longer operate safely.

BSOD is a problem which you don’t want to see happen on your computer. This critical failure causes Windows to crash and stop working. Imagine how the much irritating it would be when you are in the middle of something very important work that you are doing for hours and have not yet saved it and suddenly you get this BSOD.

After that the only option is left with you at that point is restart the PC (usually it automatically restart if not disabled manually) and due to this sudden restart, your current data could be lost as you don’t get the chance to save the data. When a blue screen occurs, Windows automatically creates a “minidump” file that contains information about the crash and saves it to your disk. How to fix it:

In Windows 7, 8, and 10, you can troubleshoot blue-screen information using the Action Center.

In Windows 7, go to the Control Panel then click on System and Security.

In Windows 8 and 10, click on Control Panel then Security and Maintenance. In the “Maintenance” section, you’ll be able to check for solutions to existing problems. Windows 8 and 10 actually perform this troubleshooting step automatically when your PC restarts after a BSOD. However, it may still be worth paying a visit to the Action Center to see if there are more details or additional troubleshooting steps.

If Windows can’t fix the problem on its own, there are few things you have to keep in your mind whenever this problem occurs. First, to troubleshoot this problem you should be aware of what recent changes you have made to your computer system and second, check if the windows partition is running out of space.

Many times a recent install of a new program or hardware, driver or Windows update could be a cause of BSOD. If it is so, then undo the change you made and test again for the STOP Error. Sometimes additional steps have to take depending on that what was the last change which leads to this error.

1. Starting up using Last Known Good Configuration to undo recent registry and driver changes.

To do this, you have to reboot your computer/laptop and Press and hold down the ‘F8’ key before the any booting starts. If it is timely done then you will get an Advanced Boot Options Menu Page on your screen, by using the arrow keys reach to the Last Known Good Configuration option and press ‘Enter’ key.

2. Using System Restore to undo recent system changes.

To do this, follow the steps:

In Windows 7: Go to the Control Panel, click on the System and Security option. Then click on System, under the Control Panel Home Menu click on System protection. Now you can open System restore from here.

In Windows 10: Go to the Control Panel, click on the System and Security option. Then click on Security and Maintenance. Then click on, Recovery. Now you can open System restore from here.

3. Rolling back the device driver to a version prior to your driver update.

To do this, right click on the ‘This PC’ icon on the desktop, and then go to the Manage option, a Computer Management window will open, click on Device Manager. A list of all hardware devices will open, click on the device that is creating a problem or recently installed, double click or right click and go to properties, a tab will open click on driver tab and then to ‘Rollback driver’. Click on ‘OK’ button.

4. Check if your computer/laptop is overheating or not. If it is so, then shut down your device and let it cool down. See if the air ventilation holes are blocked or not and the CPU fan is working properly or not. Sometimes due to overheating system behaves absurd and generates BSOD.

5. Run antivirus to scan your computer. I personally prefer to boot time scan, because some viruses can trick your system to think that it is a hardware malfunction which can cause BSOD crash.

6. Check if your system is running in low disk space in your primary partition (Drive on which your Windows Operating System is installed). Microsoft recommends min. 100MB disk space to be free always, but you should always keep atleast 15% of the drive’s capacity free space in your primary partition. You should also use Disk Cleanup utility to remove Temp files atleast once in a week or month.

7. Try to restart in Safe Mode. If the system is still crashing in safe mode then probably you need to reinstall the windows.

 How to restart your system in safe mode?

Usually after few sudden restarts you will itself reach to this screen on booting. But if you want to manually restart in safe mode, follow the steps:

1  Click on Windows button or Press Windows key on the keyboard. Go to the Power and hold the Shift key while clicking on Restart.

Wait for the windows to appear, Then Click on Troubleshoot, then click on Advanced Options, then click on Startup Settings and then Restart. Windows will restart and blue screen will appear asking for the options Press the ‘4’ key to select the Safe Mode. Now it will boots on Safe Mode.

8. Reinstall a fresh Windows. If any of the steps not resolving the issue of BSOD then last and the final option is to reinstall the fresh Windows on your device.

As it is seen normally that as soon as the blue screen flashed and your computer rebooted automatically before you had time to read anything, you need to disable the automatic restart option.

Steps to disable the Automatic Restart in Windows:

Go to the Control Panel, click on the System and Security option. Then click on Advanced system settings. A System Properties window will appear and then click to settings on Startup and Recovery box. Again a new window will appear now you uncheck the tick mark from Automatically restart option in the System failure box.

Types of Memory Cards:

There are several different types of memory cards on the basis of their shape and size.

1. CompactFlash Cards: They were first introduced by SanDisk in 1994, which comes in two variants (Type I and Type II). CF cards  differs from other types of memory cards because they have a controller chip inside the card, whereas other types have not, the controller chip is a part of the device with which the card is used.

2. SmartMedia cards: They were introduced in 1995 and were very popular in their day, but fallen into disuse; because of their internal memory architecture which had the capacity of only a maximum of 128 MB. They were also very thin and more prone to damage from bending as compared to other types. This leads to arising of two new formats SecureDigital card format and xD-Picture card format.

3. xD-Picture cards: They were launched by Fuji film and Olympus in 2002. They had advantages over SD cards at that time because of its smaller size and its internal memory design, meant that it had a theoretical maximum capacity of 8 GB, whereas the largest SD cards at that time were 512 MB.

4. SecureDigital cards: They were launched in 1999 by Panasonic, Toshiba, and SanDisk, based on the existing MultiMedia Card (MMC) format launched two years earlier by SanDisk and Siemens. In 2006, a new type of SD card was announced SDHC (High Capacity) format capable of more than 2 GB with faster read/write speed than standard SD cards.

Memory Stick: Sony has its own proprietary memory card format that is ‘Memory Stick’ which was launched in 1998 but has the same 128 MB limit as the SmartMedia card, so Sony later introduced the Memory Stick Pro in 2003 (in collaboration with SanDisk), which is faster and has a higher capacity.
